Minister Habijan presented to the Government the 2023 Report on the State and Operation of Penitentiaries, Prisons, Reformatories and Centres

The Report on the State and Operation of Penitentiaries, Prisons, Reformatories and Centres contains basic indicators on the inmate number and structure in 2023, the type and description of tasks related to the treatment of prisoners and the number and structure of officers

Minister Habijan informed the government that there were 14,434 persons deprived of liberty in the organisational units of the Directorate for Prison System and Probation during 2023.

The Minister also provided statistics on the number of persons deprived of liberty: “As at 31 December 2023, correctional institutions held a total of 4,445 persons deprived of liberty, while the overall inmate accomodation capacity was 3,932. If we look at the basis of deprivation of liberty in 2023, the majority of inmates were pre-trial detainees, almost 48 percent, followed by inmates serving a custodial sentence, 36 per cent of them.”

The report also notes that there were 2,333 foreign nationals in correctional institutions in 2023.

"During 2023, 82 judicial police trainee positions were filled", said Minister Habijan.
