On 16 October 2025, representatives of the Directorate for the Prison System and Probation participated in the Horizon Europe OPENVERSE workshop "Co-designing the Roadmap for the future European Virtual Worlds and the Web 4.0"

The workshop brought together experts, researchers and industry representatives with the aim of jointly shaping the European strategic trajectory for the development of Virtual Worlds and Web 4.0. The Croatian probation service was invited due to the inclusion of VR in the training of professionals and offender rehabilitation.
The key topics discussed during the workshop included the strengthening of Europe’s digital sovereignty, support for innovative SMEs and start-ups, development of regulatory sandboxes for responsible experimentation, and ensuring ethics and trust in digital environments.

Particular emphasis was placed on co-creating the vision of ‘Building Europe’s Ambidextrous Horizon’, which combines innovation with democratic and humane principles.

The results of the workshop will contribute to the development of a future European strategic map for Virtual Worlds and Web 4.0 in the final phase of the OPENVERSE project.
