Presentation - job shadowing in Austria
On 26 November 2025, an online presentation was held aimed at disseminating the knowledge and experiences acquired during job shadowing in Austria
During the introductory part, participants were given an overview of the organisation and functioning of the Austrian probation system, focusing on specific procedures, standards and working methods that could be relevant to domestic conditions. The elements that proved particularly useful during job shadowing were presented: how to structure work with probationers, coordination with partner institutions, approaches to risk evaluation, and tools that support the planning and monitoring of the probation process.
The next part of the presentation was dedicated to how the newly acquired knowledge can be integrated into the existing probation practices in Croatia. The discussion identified similarities and differences between the systems, as well as areas in which certain Austrian procedures could be adapted to domestic legal, organisational and resource frameworks. Emphasis was placed on realistic and feasible adjustments that could improve the quality of work, while preserving the specificity of the Croatian system.
The online format allowed for a wide reach and inclusion of colleagues from different offices, providing the opportunity for knowledge transfer also to those who did not have the opportunity to participate in job shadowing. Participants analysed concrete examples of good practice and discussed how they can be applied in their daily work. The exchange of perspectives and professional discussion contributed to a stronger understanding of the potential benefits and motivated participants to further develop practices and learn together.

In conclusion, online dissemination activity has proven to be an effective form of knowledge exchange and the encouragement of professional cooperation. Acquired experiences from Austria represent a valuable resource for further improvement of probation practices in Croatia, and this kind of meeting will continue to be an important tool in the development of competences and strengthening of the profession.
