On 23 and 24 October 2024, a delegation of the Prison System and Probation Directorate of the Ministry of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation, headed by State Secretary Vedrana Šimundža Nikolić visited the Adger Prison to gain insight into modern prison design concept, application of digital technologies in Norwegian prisons and best resocialisation practices.

The continuous efforts of the Prison System and Probation Directorate aim to ensure the effective functioning of correctional facilities, improve infrastructure and ultimately contribute to the successful rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates. Inspiration can be drawn from the innovative "Model 2015", which is known for its "standardised and industrialised" prison construction and has a positive impact on costs and operational efficiency. The aim is to embrace similar principles of innovation, standardisation and digital integration in the approach to prison development, ensuring a modern, cost-effective and humane system.

In order to exchange experiences and knowledge, the study visit was organised under the bilateral project "Strengthening the capacity and visibility of the prison and probation systems", financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. The activity provided insights into modern prison construction, digital modernisation in Norwegian prisons and best practices for the re-socialisation of prisoners. As a result of this activity, a report with recommendations will be prepared, containing key elements and recommendations for the integration of the knowledge, experience and practices of Norwegian colleagues into the Croatian context.
