State Secretary Ivan Crnčec participated in the Informal Conference of the Ministers of Justice of the Council of Europe, entitled "Towards Accountability for International Crimes Committed in Ukraine", held in Vilnius on 5 September.

The high-level participants exchanged views and positions on accountability for serious international crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine with a view to finding ways in which the Council of Europe and its Member States can significantly step up their support to the Ukrainian judicial system and strengthen the international legal order by ensuring accountability for the crime of aggression.

In his address, State Secretary Crnčec reaffirmed Croatia’s support to the Ukrainian authorities in the fight against impunity and readiness to continue providing professional assistance through the exchange of experiences in the national prosecution of war crimes.

On the sidelines of the Conference, a Treaty Signing Ceremony was held for the Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law (CETS No. 225), the first international legally binding treaty aimed at ensuring the use of AI systems in accordance with human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The European Commission signed the Convention on behalf of the EU and its Member States.
