Minister of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation Damir Habijan participated on Monday, 16 December in the event "Women in Digital", held at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) in Varaždin

In order to foster the active and important role of women in the digital society and to contribute to gender equality in the IT field, Croatia signed the Declaration of Commitment on Women in Digital in April 2019, together with other EU Member States and Norway.

In Croatia, the implementation of the Declaration at national level is coordinated by the Ministry of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation, in cooperation with the Government Office for Gender Equality.

"There are still fewer women than men in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, but also in related educational programmes, which, according to the European Parliament Report on promoting gender equality in STEM education and careers, is not only the case in Croatia but in all EU Member States. I believe that a profession should not be related to gender, but to interest, talent, will and effort of an individual, and today we are gathered to familiarise you with work in the field of information and communication technologies", Minister Habijan underlined and wished success to all students in their further education.

As Marina Klačmer Čalopa, Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics of the University of Zagreb, highlighted, the Faculty is celebrating its 50eth anniversary this year, and the importance of the contribution FOI to the STEM field is seen in the interdisciplinary nature of its study programmes. In Northern Croatia, students have the opportunity to find employment in one of the respectable companies that were either founded by FOI alumni or in which FOI alumni will be their colleagues. The Faculty follows all current trends in STEM and sets new ones, providing students with opportunities to quickly find a career.

The event brought together eminent speakers from the digital technology industry such as Kaja Pavlinić, COO of Speck agency and owner of Kajuška trade; Barbara Šlibar, Assistant at the Faculty of Organisation and Informatics; Mirjana Kranjčić, graduate electrical engineer from Ericsson Nikola Tesla; Valentina Zadrija, graduate electrical engineer from Yaak Technologies; Antonela Devčić, Senior Assistant at the Faculty of Organisation and Informatics, and Etelka Kožar, Head of Human Resources at Sick Mobilisis.

Students of the higher grades of the Medical School and the general education secondary schools (1st and 2nd Gymnasium) in Varaždin had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the experiences of women from the IT industry to help them make a choice about further education and a potential career in the STEM field.
