Minister Malenica visits the European Public Prosecutor’s Office in Croatia

On Tuesday 24 August 2021, Minister of Justice and Public Administration Ivan Malenica visited the new premises of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office - European Delegated Prosecutors in Croatia.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is the new independent public prosecution office of the European Union, responsible for investigating, prosecuting and bringing to judgment crimes against the financial interests of the EU. Currently, 22 EU Member States participate in this enhanced cooperation.The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is composed of two levels: the central (European) level and the decentralised (national) level.
 
The central level, with its headquarters in Luxembourg, consists of the European Chief Prosecutor and 22 European Prosecutors, who constitute the College of the EPPO.
 
Ms Laura Codruţa Kövesi was appointed to be the first European chief prosecutor, and Ms Tamara Laptoš was appointed to be the European public prosecutor representing Croatia. European Prosecutor Ms Laptoš serves a non-renewable term of six years, after which the Council may decide to extend the mandate for a maximum of three years.
 
Based on a public call for the candidacy for the office of European Delegated Prosecutor (EDP) from 28 December 2020, the College of the EPPO appointed Ms Sani Ljubičić and Mr Tomislav Kamber to be European Delegated Prosecutors (EDPs) in Croatia.
 
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office in Croatia is based at the following address: building B, Trg pravde, Ilica 207a, Zagreb.
 
Apart from Minister Malenica, the State Attorney General of the Republic of Croatia, Ms Zlata Hrvoj-Šipek, and the Head of USKOK (Croatia’s Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime), Ms Vanja Marušić, were present at the handover of the EPPO premises in Croatia.
