Government session: We are contributing to a strong, secure and transparent European data space
Minister Habijan presented the Draft Final Proposal of the Act Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/868 on European data governance and amending Regulation (EU) 2018/1724 (Data Governance Act) in Croatia
‘By transposing this Regulation, Croatia is strengthening its digital ecosystem and contributing to the broader objective of the European Union to create a strong, secure and transparent European data space’, explained Minister Habijan.The Final Act Proposal designates the competent authorities for data intermediation services, registration of data altruism organisations and control of the application of this law, as well as for the provision of technical and professional assistance in processing requests for the re-use of protected data.
‘The adoption of this law is going to strengthen the economic sector by regulating the activity of providing data intermediation services and the safety of users of those services’, the Minister concluded.
Procedure of accession to the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer initiated
The Government also adopted a Decision to initiate the procedure of accession to the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer.
The purpose of this Convention is to strengthen the protection of the profession of lawyer so that lawyers and their associations may pursue their professional activities and exercise their rights under the Convention without being subjected to attacks, threats, harassment or intimidation, or of improper hindrance or interference with their work.
2024 Probation Service Activity Report accepted
Minister Habijan also presented, and the Government accepted, the 2024 Probation Service Activity Report.
The report states that the probation service handled almost 7,000 cases last year, while probationers completed 328,868 hours of community service.
The probation service consists of the Central Probation Office and 15 probation offices. In June 2024, the Šibenik Probation Office was established, expanding the network of probation offices.
‘To improve the professional competences of probation officers, a number of trainings were delivered last year, and the Guidelines for the Development of the Probation Service 2024-2028 were issued’, Minister Habijan concluded.
