Government session: Changes in composition of European Committee of the Regions
At the 147th session of the Government, State Secretary Ivan Crnčec presented a Proposal of the Decision amending the Decision on appointment of members and alternate members to the European Committee of the Region for the term 2025-2030
The Committee of the Regions is an advisory body of the European Union that includes representatives of local and regional authorities elected in local elections.State Secretary Crnčec explained that Croatia has nine members and nine alternates appointed for a period of five years.
‘Candidates for members and alternate members of the Committee of the Regions are proposed by the national associations of local and regional self-government units at the invitation of the Ministry of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation’, said State Secretary Crnčec, recalling that in September 2024 the Government appointed members and alternate members to the Committee of the Regions for the term 2025-2030
‘However, after the 2025 regular local elections, there has been a change in the electoral mandates of some members and alternate members," he added.
Consequently, the Ministry of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation invited the Croatian Association of Counties and the Association of Cities to nominate candidates, who were subsequently included in the proposed Decision.
