The new “Open Data Policy of the Republic of Croatia” defines the principles and objectives for the opening and re-use of public sector data in Croatia

The Policy underlines the importance of open data as a basis for digital transformation, innovation, economic growth and strengthening of the transparency and accountability of public authorities.

The document incorporates the legal framework of the EU and the Republic of Croatia and provides ways to ensure the availability of high-value datasets.

It also defines mechanisms for the coordination and monitoring of Policy implementation, the role of the Open Data Portal, as well as plans for future development and cooperation at national and European level.

The implementation of this policy will depend on continuous coordination and cooperation between all stakeholders, including public authorities, the private sector, academia and citizens.

It is therefore important to continue to develop mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating its impacts, as well as to provide the necessary resources for its effective implementation.

The Open Data Policy has the potential to significantly contribute to the development of the digital economy and the improvement of the quality of life of citizens in Croatia, making Croatia a part of the global trend of data openness and transparency.

The eConsultation on the Open Data Policy Draft Proposal is open until 22 February 2025.
