On 6 April, Minister of Justice and Public Administration Ivan Malenica accompanied Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on a visit to Gospić to mark the completion of construction works on the premises of the Central Land Registry Archives.

The investment worth nearly four million euros was realised by the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration with a loan from the World Bank.

The building of the former military warehouse Matras in Gospić was reconstructed to accomodate the Archives. The premises have over 2,000 m² and will store as much as 17 km of land registers from all over Croatia.

The reconstruction of the building started in April 2022,  and it now complies with all the standards of archival preservation. This investment will protect valuable archival material and, as far as paper and space are concerned, it will relieve the burden on all courts in Croatia.

“We now have all the documents in one place, and when anyone from any part of Croatia needs specific information, they will send a request to Gospić, where the documents will be scanned and provided to interested parties”, Plenković said, congratulating Minister Malenica, County Executive Petry and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Veterans’s Affairs Tomo Medved.

16 new jobs will be created for the Archives

In addition to the general registers and the registers of deposited contracts, the Archives will also accommodate the collections of documents that will be accessible electronically.

The building is equipped with state-of-the-art systems such as the NOVEC Fire Protection system, to ensure the security and protection of important documents, and 16 members of staff are planned to be employed in the Archives.
