The Convention was adopted on 24 December 2024 in New York by Resolution 79/243 at the 55th plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly.
By signing the Convention, Croatia confirms its commitment to strengthen international cooperation in combating certain crimes committed by means of information and communication technology systems and to improve the exchange of electronic evidence in the investigation and prosecution of serious crimes.
The Convention covers offences against information and communication technology systems, such as unauthorised access to computer systems, unlawful interception of data, disruption of systems and misuse of devices, but also certain serious offences committed using digital technologies, where the collection of electronic evidence is required.
The Convention was signed by Hrvoje Ćurić-Hrvatinić, Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission and Plenipotentiary Minister at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Croatia to the United Nations in New York, in the presence of Mladen Bručić-Matica, Director General for European Affairs, International and Judicial Cooperation and Anti-Corruption, and Tomislav Boršić, Head of Sector for European Affairs and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation.
The signing will be followed by a ratification procedure, which will allow for the full application of the Convention in the Croatian legal order.
