EuroPris delegation in Croatia: Cooperation in modernising prison systems

The visit to Croatia on 29 and 30 October brought together experts from the prison systems of Northern Ireland, Ireland, Germany, Catalonia, France, England and Wales, Denmark and Italy.

Minister of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation Damir Habijan and Director General for the Prison System and Probation Zvonimir Penić welcomed the EuroPris delegation led by Deputy Director Justina Dzienko during a working visit of the Real Estate & Logistics Expert Group, which included a field visit to the Women's Prison in Požega.

The participation of the Republic of Croatia in the work of EuroPris has proven beneficial, providing our experts with a valuable professional, informative and comparative foundation for the preparation of modernisation interventions and activities within Croatia's prison system. During the visit to the Women's Prison in Požega, the international representatives learned about the progress made so far. They commended the efforts that Croatia is making toward modernising its prison system. This modernisation focuses on areas such as energy efficiency, sustainability, reduction of overcrowding, security, rehabilitation, and work of persons deprived of liberty.

The Ministry of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation is committed to continuing its support of EuroPris as a unique platform for exchanging ideas, experiences and knowledge, and further enhancing European cooperation in prison systems.
