State Secretary Juro Martinović and Ambassador of Norway to Croatia Arne Sannes Bjørnstad opened the renovated premises of the Probation Office Zagreb II on Thursday, 25 April.
The renovation worth 200,634.36 euros was part of the project “Strengthening human rights protection and public safety by improving the capacities of the Croatian probation service”, funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021.
In addition to the renovation and refurbishment of the Probation Office Zagreb II, the level of security of probation officers was raised by installing new panic buttons, video intercoms and cameras.
Apart from the Probation Office Zagreb II, the project included the renovation and refurbishment of probation offices in Rijeka, Sisak, Split, Požega, Osijek and Bjelovar.
“Probation tasks are of great importance for the Republic of Croatia, our society and the preservation of human rights. Removing stigma from prisoners is just as important as raising the security of our officers. I believe that this is the added value of this project - because if we, as the system, send the message to probationers that their integration into society is not done as a mere formality, but to actually function in practice, then in the long run we are making significant steps for the security of our local community", the State Secretary said at the opening ceremony.
