Minister Malenica at the conference “On the path to justice for Ukraine”

Minister of Justice and Public Administration Ivan Malenica is taking part in the informal justice ministers’ conference “On the path to justice for Ukraine”, held within the framework of Latvia’s presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in Riga from 11 to 12 September.

The justice ministers of the Council of Europe member states discussed the fight against impunity, international legal mechanisms for sanctioning Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Register of Damage caused to Ukraine by the aggression of the Russian Federation, assistance to Ukraine in sanctioning war crimes and the crime of aggression, and provision of more effective assistance to Ukrainian families whose children have been illegally deported to the Russian Federation and Belarus.

Minister Malenica once again underlined Croatia’s readiness to share its experience in prosecuting war crimes with the competent Ukrainian authorities, mentioning the Workshop on the Prosecution of War Crimes held in June and organised in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, where Croatian prosecutors shared their experiences with their Ukrainian counterparts.

In addition, Croatia continues to support Ukraine in establishing an effective support system for victims and witnesses of crime.

In the margins of the ministerial meeting, Minister Malenica held bilateral meetings with Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin and Minister of Justice Denys Maliuska. They discussed continued co-operation in the prosecution of war crimes in Ukraine, the establishment of a victim support system and judicial cooperation.

Minister Malenica also met with Georgian Minister Rati Bregadze. The ministers discussed the cooperation between the probation services, digitalisation of the judiciary and joint projects related to the training of judicial officials.
