Under the project “Strengthening human rights protection and public safety by improving the capacities of the Croatian probation service”, activity “Cooperation between prison system and probation system”, a Self-defence course for probation and prison officers was delivered from October 2022 to May 2023.
The Self-defence course, held at the Zagreb Prison sports hall by instructors Ivan Šipur and Branimir Bunić, was attended by officers of Probation Office Bjelovar, Probation Office Zagreb I, Probation Office Zagreb II, Probation Office Varaždin, Zagreb Prison, Karlovac Prison, Prison Hospital, Turopolje Reformatory, Training Centre, Diagnostics Centre, Central Office of the Probation Sector and Central Office for Prison System.
In the course of nine trainings, probation and prison officers had the opportunity to acquire knowledge and techniques which can be useful in a potential attack, such as: hand grip defence, defence against clothes grip, one-handed or two-handed choke defence, rear choke defence, punching techniques, defence against body grab, throat grab defence, use of pepper spray, basic ground fighting techniques, defence against attacks with sharp objects.
14 focus punch mitts and 1 punching dummy were acquired with the resources from the Norwegian Financial Mechanism for this Self-defence course as well as for any further trainings of officers in penal institutions.
