The Government of the Republic of Croatia adopted a Decision on state party referral for the purpose of requesting the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to open an investigation into the alleged crimes in Ukraine.
Presenting the proposal for the Decision, Minister Malenica pointed out that the Republic of Croatia, as a State Party to the Rome Statute, will, in accordance with Article 14(1) of the Rome Statute, refer the situation in Ukraine to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, not only with regard to the latest casualties, but all situations in which there is a suspicion of serious crimes against humanity and war crimes from 2013 to date.
39 States Parties to the Rome Statute have referred the situation in Ukraine to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
“Russia's aggression against Ukraine has seen mass destruction and suffering of the Ukrainian people. In recent days, we have witnessed various recordings of the execution of civilians in a beastly manner. The Government of the Republic of Croatia has clearly expressed great solidarity and support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. Croatia as a country that had undergone war destruction, on whose territory the international humanitarian law has been grossly violated, understands more than well the situation of Ukraine and we are ready to provide our full support. The perpetrators of those crimes must be prosecuted," said Minister Malenica.
