Rules to naming a child

The birth register contains records of the births of all persons in the Republic of Croatia as well as the births of Croatian citizens abroad.

Parents are free to name their child according to their wishes. It is important that the chosen name is a word or words which in themselves constitute a name. 

A child's surname depends primarily on the common surname of its parents. 

If the parents’ surnames differ one from the other, they can designate one of the surnames or both as the child's surname.
