Minister Habijan presented amendments to the Judicial Cooperation Act: A more modern framework for more efficient cross-border procedures
Minister of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation Damir Habijan presented to the Croatian Parliament the proposed amendments to the Act on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters with EU Member States
The new, comprehensive legal solution provides a modern and functional legal framework that will enable Croatian judicial authorities to deal more efficiently with cross-border criminal cases and further strengthen cooperation within the Union.
The law is primarily nomotechnically too complex to define more clearly and precisely the specific forms of judicial cooperation that are already regulated by EU legislation.
‘This primarily concerns instruments such as the European Arrest Warrant, the European Investigation Order, freezing and confiscation orders, and the recognition and execution of such orders’, the Minister said.
In addition to the nomotechnical regulation, the new law also incorporates implementing provisions enabling the application of the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council, for which the transposition deadline is 1 February 2027.
‘The new legislative framework will bring greater operability and speed in the conduct of Croatian courts and state attorney's offices’, concluded the Minister.
